Macbook Air 2020 I7: Review

product tester

The new macbook 2020 i7 laptop is the first to offer quad-core processors as well as 16GB RAM. It also comes with a small price tag. After years of being limited in specs, the MacBook Air has finally seen a significant upgrade.

The MacBook Air's 10th generation Intel Core i5/i7 processors are up to 20 percent faster than last year's base model. These improvements are due to a higher clock speed, more threads and a higher boost frequency.

The i5 processor has a slight performance advantage for CPU-intensive tasks such as video editing. But, this is especially true when compared to similar models from Dell XPS 13 at the same cost. This won't cause any problems for most users. However, most people won't notice any difference in their MacBook Airs' performance if they are only using them for short, single-core tasks.

Battery Life

A long-lasting, reliable battery makes the MacBook Air a great work-from-home option. Apple claims the new machine can be used for as much as 11 hours of web browsing or 12 hours of video playingback. Although it wasn't perfect, our tests showed that it was still more efficient than many Windows machines with the same price.

Display

The Apple display on the new MacBook Air doesn't get the P3-wide color support it does on the Macbook Pro, but it's a decent enough display for everyday use. Although it has a lower brightness than the MacBook Pro's (400 Nits vs.500 Nits), the display is bright enough for most situations.

Keyboard

The MacBook Air's Magic Keyboard has a lot more space than the previous year's butterfly keyboard. You can also reconfigure keys and/or arrows with the Magic Keyboard. While there are still some oddities to the keyboard layout, it is vastly improved over the old Airs with their clunky Arrow Keys.

The Air's keyboard can be a little bit cramped in comparison to larger MacBook Pros. Also, some of the reconfigured Arrow keys may take some time to get used too. Overall, the Air's keyboard makes it a more enjoyable Mac laptop than any other.

Powerup

The macbook air 2020 i7 has the latest version MacOS. It's called Catalina. This is a vast improvement over the iTunes-based OS X found on all Apple laptops in 2018. This makes it easier for macOS apps to be used and reduces iTunes to a sidebar. This also means Apple's own music and podcasts are all unified into one app. This is a fantastic idea.

The 2020 MacBook Air is equipped with an i7 processor. It has a base frequency 1.1 GHz with a boost up to 3.5 GHz. This can be reduced to 1.33 GHz if you don't need it. It's paired with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB PCIe-based SSD, which should be more than enough for most people's needs.
